DECATUR ST. RAMBLE

I set up a little stand for my jewelry today at the Decatur Street Ramble. . . a community/neighborhood event that happens once a year. It's all happy kids, live music, yards sales and fair-time activies. some of the many options were: to have your toes/fingernails painted by a shaky handed six year old (i opted for bright red pinky finger nails), pay .75 cents for relationship advice at a booth made of cardboard boxes, get henna done in someones backyard that has been transformed into a Indian-inspired lounge palace, hop on a stationary bike that powers a smoothie blender, eat amazing wheat berry salad local beef burgers (donations only), have your fortune told by wee-ones (most times your fortune was to go have your fingernails painted by the kids across from them!) or paint the interior of someone's van wiwith bright colors. All in all, a very Vermonty type event. xx

MAGENTA SHARPIE

Colored it on . . . rinsed it out. I like it better with this light pink faded look. Can't say it's too good for my hair though. I've always loved rubbing red flower petals into my highlights to get color, but this was more of a spur-of-the-moment type deal.

I had been lusting over the Equipment silk shirt above for a while. . . so when i found a dead-ringer the other day at my favorite church thrift for .25 cents I was obviously psyched.

PUSHCART WAR

Remember when Erin Wasson made those dumb-ass comments about getting her style inspiration from homeless people. . . well what she actually said was "The people with the best style for me are the people that are the poorest. Like, when I go down to Venice beach and I see the homeless, like, I'm like, 'Oh my God, they're pulling out, like, crazy looks and they, like, pulled ----- out of like garbage cans.'" If you don't know what i'm referencing i've posted the video below (the best part being "it girl" Cory Kennedy blankly nodding in agreement). Ok, so maybe the whole "shredded clothing" movement might have originally been inspired by down-and-outs, BUT, when you go around saying shit like that you just sound ignorant as hell.

anyway. . . when i saw these photos of Chris (for a series titled "The Original Hipster" by Parsons graduate Julia Chesky), Wasson's words came to mind. According to the Trendland.net article Chris is "homeless by choice" and has lived on Mercer St. for the past few decades. I guess this is how Chris dresses on a daily basis.
