PHOTO REALISM

While in NYC this past week my sister and I wandered around in Chelsea; popping into galleries to avoid the rain (and see the pretty art, obvi). We came across the work of the Israeli born artist Yigal Ozeri (he's lived in NYC for the past twenty years). At first glance we looked at each other and agreed that his photos weren't really our taste. Just as we were about to leave the gallery Alden tugged my arm and whispered, "Wait, these aren't photos, they're paintings!" What had originally been unimpressive in our minds was now practically mind-blowing. How does one paint with such realistic detail? You might not necessarily be impressed with these images i've posted but if you see them in real life, whoa.

WITCH HUNTRESS
New York artist Andrea Marshall's experimentations with self-portaiture, collage, painting and ideas of "the tragic and idealistic nature of the prototypical female" are her attempt to visually create "a symbiotic dialogue between history and contemporary culture." I'd say she was pretty darn successful.

Jennie Ottinger
i don't remember where i came across the work of Jennie Ottinger but i absolutely love it. her whimsical sketches and paintings are in that loose, yet talented, style i always wished i could posess.
