I was nine. I was listening to grunge then, if you can believe it.

18, just graduating HS.... obsessed with underground grunge and punk at UCSB. Mary's Danish was my fave. American Standard. They were crazy live. the album does not do them justice at all.

What I love about the 90's was the girl interpretation of androgyny. Forget about hair cuts and products, wear your boyfriends jeans and your dad's shirt from the 70's. Slap on some mauve lipstick and you are done. Meanwhile, little did we know-but is clearly displayed in the video, boy interpretation in the 90's was much sexier. More centered around haircuts flattering faces and jawlines, proper fit of clothing and a hint of oh this? it just happens naturally. Much to be learned about subtlety.

I was 15, sadly too young to see any of those bands. I remember seeing Butthole Surfers listed in the city newspaper and being so bummed I couldn't go. Thank god there was Lollapalooza;)

14. This and Portisheads Dummy were my favourite albums then. The Tank Girl movie came out not long after and i gave myself the tank girl haircut with little dreads and wore petticoats as dresses and ripped tights and little corduroy miniskirts with combat boots. Those were the days!
