Hot new trend in the Netherlands: re-designing the interiors of abandoned churches and historic buildings to be fantastic residences. . . without greatly altering the basic structure of the original building. Yes. Please.
The residence below was St. Jakobus church in Utrecht. This church stopped holding mass in 1991 and up until 2007 had been used as showroom for antique furniture as well as a venue for small concerts. Now it is a fucking sa-weet living space filled with natural light, art, and a massive dinning room table built from old church pews.

I read about people doing this in Buffalo, NY and most recently with Limelight Marketplace in NY. It is a church, turned nightclub, turned upscale "mall" in the city. God bless.

WHAT A DREAM. This is basically my dream house. I had a look at the factory loft too, it's amazing too. Love me some exposed beams. Did you see the stairs in the School Loft? They're crazy, such an interesting design, like art all on their own.
I've seen something before, church conversions always look amazing. I wouldn't mind one of my own!
This is pretty sweet. I know someone in Philly who has an office in an old church and the light through the stained glass is pretty unreal. They are re-purposing a church in Carroll Gardens to be apartments also.

This house is eery. When will people learn its better to tear down churches instead of remodel them. Religion is so fucking passe...
i like how the lines seem to mirror the reflection of ones own face looking back through a stainglass window. the light of the christ child radiating through the austere atmosphere, and the lumination of all things god and all things mysterious. and the hardwood floors remind me of the kneelers in pews, and i can imagine studying them with my head bent and my hands against the warmth of my forehead....
this made me say Oh My God out loud. but seriously. this is amaaazing.
