Did you know... that no animal, once frozen solid (i.e., water solidifies and turns to ice) survives when thawed, because the ice crystals formed inside cells would break open the cell membranes. However there are certain frogs that can survive the experience of being frozen. These frogs make special proteins which prevent the formation of ice (or at least keep the crystals from becoming very large), so that they actually never freeze even though their body temperature is below zero Celsius. The water in them remains liquid: a phenomenon known as 'supercooling.' If you disturb one of these frogs (just touching them even), the water in them quickly freezes solid and they die.

hehe this kind of stuff always entertains me... but then again I am a nerd at heart!

Thanks for the give away. npatchi@umail.ucsb.edu

this probably won't entertain you, but you may find it interesting... or nice or something.

i can't remember where i initially found out about your blog... but i figured out why i like it so much! you remind me so much of the women on my biological mother's side of the family. there are two (and my amazing oma + biological mum) and they are all really strong women. one lives on a plot of land in ayer's cliff (in quebec and we actually came to vermont to see bread + puppet once) and the other is a marine biologist who plays all kinds of sports and is super active with two young kids. they are both really beautiful and inspiring.

something about your lifestyle reminds me so much of them... i guess because you live on a farm and make jewellery and have a fashion blog. like you don't limit yourself? if that makes sense.

anyway, i find you to be really inspiring and remind me sooo much of my family (you even look freakishly like one of my cousins).

and that necklace is amazing. really really cool.

So there's this Scottish shepherd and his next door neighbor, Micky McCloud, has been rumored to get 'amorous' with sheep from time to time. This makes the shepherd very nervous and he keeps a vigilant eye on his sheep. One day, he looks out his window and sees his neighbor trying to get frisky with one of his sheep. He yells out the window, "Hey! McCloud! Get off of my ewe!"
