BLACK AND WHITE

The sandals on the left inspired this DIY. When I first saw them I knew I must have them . . . but since there was no link to the maker, and even if there were i most likely couldn't afford them, I filed them away in the Future DIY folder on my desktop.

When I saw the sandals on the right (for $10 at a thrift store) I thought they'd be a good base for my project. I had some white leather paint left over from a project I did last year so I have it a go. Even though I'm pretty happy with the result, I still have my eyes peeled for the real deal. . .

RAQUEL ALLEGRA

For some reason my boyfriend knows Raquel Allegra's work by name. Don't ask me why her name stuck in his head but it has. He was a curious observer as i sat on the couch patiently shredding my tshirts (á la Allegra) with Veronica Mars on tv a couple years ago.

Seeing Raquel on Closet Visit with all her carefully curated items made me drool. That collection of silver bracelets!! The cowhide jacket!! Her industrial dresser. . . A++

FINEST FORM OF FLATTERY

I think i found the look i'm going to emulate this fall. . . hair, makeup, layering. . .I think I'll pass on the pout though.

FROM HERE TO THERE

Ever since getting this vintage tasseled leather jacket a few years ago i've slowly been trying to make it more user-friendly. I am not a biker. I wish i were, but alas, i'm just not that badass. Therefore, a full on tasseled leather biker jacket comes off as Halloween-y when i wear it. The first step towards wearability was to turn it into a vest. The arms were fully tasseled, á la A.Wang's fringed leather sweatshirt from a few seasons back, so removing them was an easy decision. . . Alas, even with the jacket in vest form it still wasn't quite "me."

So when I was in Maine earlier this month and I found an ill-fitting (and stain ridden) patterned jacket on the $1 rack at a thrift store, I saw potential. I decided to sew a panel of the B&W patterned material onto the back of the vest to give it a more casual look. I also added some of the fabric to this jacket as well. . .
