** I'm going to be guest blogging for Volcomunity again! Below is a Volcomunity post I did back in October. . . Check in on Thursdays to see my posts!
I was thirteen years old the first time I ever heard The Stone Roses’ “I Wanna Be Adored;” sitting on the floor of a teenage boy’s bedroom (who’s walls were covered floor to ceiling with professional grade-grafitti) in a converted Monk monastery in Edinborough, Scotland. The monastery’s stone walls were over two feet thick so even though we were blasting music, our parent’s in the next room over couldn’t hear us. Casper (a punkish, uber sarcastic, bright red-haired Scottish kid) was showing my sister and I what real music sounded like (he also introduced us to Propellerhead that night) and The Stone Roses were where it was at. The song’s eerie lyrics and early nineties electric guitar had me hooked (this was also about the same time as my The Craft obsession). Now, every time I hear this song my heart aches for that night when I learned what good music was.
Recently Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” is my audio fixation. The first time I heard the song I happened to be watching the music video for it. Wouter De Backer’s voice (which I think sounds like Peter Gabriel in this song) is fantastic, but what really mesmerized me was his face! When he starts really singing you realize that he has this gigantic mouth full of teeth. He’s like this striking frog and I love it. The back and forth between Kimbra and him in the video is totally sexy too. Lyrics wise, it’s not the most groundbreaking. . . but the song just won’t quit.
