TAKE ME BACK TO TULUM

We got home from Tulum, Mexico less than two weeks ago and I’m already mentally planning a trip back next year . . . if I set aside $25 a week . . .

Tulum was just amazing. It’s located on the Mayan Riviera an hour and a half down the coast from the Cancun airport by car. Tulum is nothing like Cancun though. . . There are no big resorts with pools, I didn’t see many Spring Break 2012 types and it relies heavily on solar power for energy because it’s off the grid.

The white limestone beach was stunning with crystal clear Caribbean waters and huge waves to play in, Tulum Pueblo was small, delicious, charming and not too touristy (just make sure you explore the side streets off the main strip for a less touristy feel), and the Mayan Ruins on the coast were pretty freaking awesome (in the truest sense of the word). My mom lent me Barbara Kingsolver’s The Lacuna for the trip which was great because the first half of it takes place in Mexico (it’s a fantastic book, and I definitely loved it way more than Kingsolver’s others).

HOTEL PLAYA KIN HA

Tulum was my first tropical vacation out of the country (other than a trip to Jamaica in 2nd grade when my grandmother was living there) and I can totally see why people get addicted visiting places like it. What’s more relaxing than listening to the sound of waves as you read your book on the beach, cold beverage only an arm’s length away?

What a beautiful purchase. I don't know the correct word for it off the top of my head. In my language (Danish) it's called something that'd translate into "a runner" and here we'd use it to adorn a table or maybe hang on the wall.

Any which way, it is very, very pretty <3

What was the name of the place you stayed at? Looks nice, and was it expensive? I'll be there this time in 2 weeks!
