LOOKY LOOKY
After reading Hal's comment about being able to find a ring more original than the YSL one on Etsy I decided to do a little hunting. . . and looky what I found! Replicas being sold for $34.99 . . . poor bloggers everywhere can now own one too!
. . . and if you've been patiently saving up for that oh-so-popular $220 Pamela Love Cross Ring . . .
I am in no way condoning the blatant copying of someone's designs in this post. I'm just wondering how important it is that we spend big bucks on something, (which isn't even quality in the YSL ring case) when there is a much cheaper version of it out there. Isn't that why people love to shop at Forever21? If something is really trendy than you might not wanna be dropping a lot of cash to own it. . . especially if it might be "so last year" in just a few months.

Just want to make sure you know its pretty messed up to push fakes. Designers put a lot of time, money and heart into creating special things and rely on the sales from people that love their work to live and keep their company growing. Making or buying fakes pretty much garutees a short life for brands that people love, then they complain that no one is doing anything new or original. As a designer I know how pissed i would be if people were making and buying knock offs of my work. Just wanted to throw that out there.
these arent really "fakes" in my opinion, since she doesnt have the designers logo or even allude to the designers at all. they are copies obviously, but im kinda ok with that. i cant even dream of dropping $500 or more on a pamela love piece but i love the style, so its quite tempting to want to buy (or make myself) an affordable version.
the sincerest form of flattery, right? ;)

HI. I love you. I have loved you for a long time. Now I love you more. I have been OBSESSING over this ring for a long time but couldn't validate spending that money (I do spend on purses, which I carry daily) but this statement piece won't accompany me to lab classes....anyway, I do NOT think it's a copy, there is no name, and quite frankly I would love this just as much as if it was first made popular for $5 by some random street artist in thailand...YSL means SHIT in regards to this ring....
Jesus H, Pamela Love is cultural appropriator #1. She steals from so-called "tribal" and Native American design and calls it creativity. It's no different than the current barrage of magazines featuring carefree white girls in Native headdresses. You're all idiots for going along with this bullshit. Rethink your lives!

I could not agree most!!!

I design and make things. This is how I (am trying to) make a living. However, I too am ok with a $16 knock off of a $500 ring. It's not like someone is knocking it off and offering it for $450, or even $300. The people who are buying the $16 ring could probably never ever afford the $500 ring, or even the $300 knock off if it existed. I know I probably won't ever afford it. It's making it available to two completely different markets, in my opinion. The designer makes $$$ off the rich girls, and the etsy seller makes (considerably less) off everyone else. And sure, maybe the $16 ring will break after a month, or turn your finger green. You get what you pay for...what do you expect for $16?
well i love the rings! and the post! fashion should be for everyone not just those who can afford it.
I am a fairly new follower, love your blog! I'd love it if you could check out mine too!

Girl go to my latest post and check out Hard Candy Gems or whatever the shop's name is ... they're sterling wire, but she does them really well, they won't turn you green like that cheap YSL shit, and she has every single color non-precious stone under the sun for dirt cheap. And they're all HUGE. You'll love it, trust. xo
