HAT EXPANSION

A while back I saw a street-style image in which a guy was wearing a brimmed hat that looked to have been made bigger by slicing and then loosely safety pinning the seam.  So when I found this black Bates Hatter hat at a thrift store I wasn't too upset when it didn't fit on my dome.

I should have taken DIY process images for you guys because it was really simple to do. I used a sharp razor blade to slice up the back of the hat and then used my leather punch to make even holes for the cord to lace through.

Voila! A quick hat expansion.

MY NEXT DIY

When I saw these "Luxury Jones Boots" that One Part Gypsy posted about I immediately thought two things: Free People is selling them . . . therefore they must cost an arm and a leg . . . and that they look like the easiest DIY everrr.

Turns out I was right about the cost. After clicking over to Free People, I saw that the boots are selling for $438 a pair. The major problem here is that you don't even know what your overpriced boots are going to end up looking like since they are "found vintage".

I know what i'll have my eyes peeled for the next time i'm thrifting: cowboy boots and four belts. Any takers?

viola, a vest is made

ok, so i know i'm really bad about posting my DIY projects. . . but i'm especially bad at photographing the before parts of the projects

a few weeks ago i bought this leather jacket on ebay (the before photos are the ebay ones) and when it came in the mail it just fit all kinds of wrong. . . so i vestified it.  and i loveee the outcome.

i removed the sleeves, took in the sides, removed the front and back leather flap/vent things to reveal the side pockets and narrowed the shoulders (reattaching the shoulder flaps when done).  I'm really happy with the outcome and i can't decide if i wanna do any studding action. . . I kinda like that this vest isn't as crazy as my leather fringe vest (that also used to be a fully fringed jacket before i got my hands on it).  Maybe i'll leave it as is for now.
